4 January 2010 - Rowington in the frost |
|
Captain of the day: Harry Willshaw
Meeting place: RLE
Weather: Heavy frost
Mileage:
Route: See description
Bicycles/Riders: 5
Coffee/11s stop: Winged Spur, Ullenhall
Lunch stop: Rowington
Afternoon/3s stop: Chez Harry
Landscape: Warwickshire in white
Drama: Ice riding demonstration from the Desert Rat
Anything else:
This was to be the first ride of the New Year, but the hardy 5 who gathered at the Red Lion questioned both the viability of the ride and their own sanity. However, with enough riders to make a quorum and especially since one was a new recruit, Caroline, we decided to tackle the day sticking to more major roads where possible. In retrospect this was an excellent decision since later in the week the weather deteriorated and as I write this cycling looks to be unlikely until the 2nd or even 3rd week of the New Year. |

2 September 2009 - Long Itchington |
|
Captain(s) of the day: John Bennett
Meeting place: Earlswood
Weather: Unpleasant
Mileage: about 40
Route: Well, not so much a route as an ad hoc variation as the group put pressure on the Captain to return home before the predicted storm arrived - variously forecast to occur from 1400 - 1600. |

9 August 2009 : Alveley Country Park |
|
Captains of the day: Both Porters
Meeting place: Waseley
Weather: Brilliant
Mileage: ~ 55
Route: Heaven knows - apart from Kinver we hardly saw any villages. The minor roads seemed to pass through empty countryside even though we skirted Wolverhampton and Dudley. We visited 4 counties and a ferry - a blockbuster of a ride with Oscar starring performances from John & Hillary (who needs Hugh Grant?)
